Big introvert here. I have walked 3 Caminos in the last two years (Frances, Portuguese, and Finisterre) and I agree 100% with the above comments. Camino people from all over the world are kind, respectful, and understanding. They will give you the shirt off their back and the space that you need. Communication is the key. Always remember, it’s your Camino! Have fun and Buen Camino!

In my experience last year people tended to gravitate towards those with similar characters quite quickly.

There is a lot of excitement in those early days Sarah and the extroverts stood out for sure. That initial excitement gives way to curiosity when things settle down and it’s at this point that you will see who is likely to be amongst those that will form your Camino family.

You will, unquestionably, be amongst many people who are not only introverts but also, like myself, omniverts (look it up).

The saying ‘birds of a feather flock together’ is never more true when it comes to the Camino.

I really hope it goes well for you and Buen Camino.

omnivert… now I‘m curious—that sounds about right, I‘ll look it up

My understanding of omnivert is someone who enjoys the company of others but also craves their own company. This was me last year on the Frances where the solitude on the Meseta I experienced was such a joy. I then enjoyed all the pilgrim meals and the table chatter in the evenings.

I am an ambivert. Thanks Allan for making me curious about onmivert. When I did, I got a spot on description of my personality which is ambivert. Love learning new things.

Gerrit, you nailed it again. How you explain the feelings one has or can have while on the Camino encapsulates so vividly the experiences of « what is camino? ». Thank you for keeping these feelings alive…as you do for me with your « Camino Meditations ».

…and to Sarah…you will find the Camino is for everyone and anyone who surrenders to the adventure and common goal of walking every day. You will quickly find your own pace and groove and as much or as little community sharing you feel the need for. Pilgrims are exceptionally kind and respectful.

Buen camino 😊

the strange thing is: it really works for everyone. the Camino tunes into what you need/want, or vice-versa—who knows what‘s really happening when it happens, but… „it just works“ ;)

thanks as always, Danielle, for your kind words—always great to read this sort of reaction

Those moments of pure joy on the Camino are the closest thing to perfection that I have ever experienced. And the harder days were great teachers.

Those hard days are the ones that you’ll be so proud to have experienced, especially the ones where you thought you would never make the climb.

I saw a video on YT last year of a lady walking the Camino with Airpods... Just airpods! No music nor podcasts. She didn't want to be disturbed and wished to stay in her bubble. Not judging.

I so respect that.
